Kenya’s $3.2 billion Chinese built Standard-Gauge Railway (SGR) ranked as the only remarkable railway line in Africa and seventh globally.
The survey on the world’s most magnificent rail tours for 2019 was carried out and published by British media, The Telegraph.
Kenya’s Sh320 billion ($3.2 bn) Standard-Gauge Railway (SGR) is the only African railway that made it to the list of the 13 most remarkable railway tours.
The Chinese built railway is the country’s biggest infrastructure investment since its independence in 1963. Built to a modern “standard gauge”, it runs parallel to the now-dilapidated metre gauge railway line from the colonial era.
Madaraka Express plies between the coastal city of Mombasa and Kenyan capital Nairobi with Amboseli and Tsavo West national parks being some of the spectacular sceneries the rail offers.
